Studies of Nucleon-Gold Collisions at 200 GeV per Nucleon Pair Using Tagged d+Au Interactions

The spectra of charged hadrons produced near mid-rapidity in d+Au, p+Au and n+Au collisions at p sNN = 200 GeV are presented as a function of transverse momentum and centrality. Thesemeasurements were performed using the PHOBOS detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Nucleon-nucleus interactions were extracted from the d+Au data by identifying the deuteron spectators. The deuter...

USING d+Au COLLISIONS TO FIND EVIDENCE FOR QUARK-GLUON PLASMA IN Au+Au COLLISIONS AT A CENTER OF MASS ENERGY OF 200 GeV PER NUCLEON

Evidence for a novel state of matter known as the quark-gluon plasma has been found in relativistic heavy ion collisions. During Au+Au collisions, the suppression of particle jets is observed, and was predicted to occur in quarkgluon plasma. In d+Au collisions, this phenomenon is not observed, indicating a different nuclear environment. An analysis of observables such as the Balance Function an...

Strange and Non-Strange (Anti-)Baryon Production at 200 GeV per Nucleon

Rapidity distributions of net hyperons (Λ − Λ) are compared to distributions of participant protons (p − p). Strangeness production (mean multiplicities of produced Λ/Σ hyperons and 〈K + K〉) in central nucleusnucleus collisions is shown for different collision systems at different energies. An enhanced production of Λ compared to p is observed at 200 GeV per nucleon.
